Recently, as I was browsing You Tube, I chanced upon this video clip captioned "The last Lecture" of a young professor, Dr. Randy Pausch, giving a "Last Lecture" at Carnegie Mellon University. To my understanding, last lectures are designed to give retiring professors the opportunity to share their wisdom and thoughts on life. Dr. Pausch had been diagnosed of pancreatic cancer.
He spoke on living life. He never denied the fact that he had but few weeks to live. He spoke about life, dreams and the importance of loving and learning, these very qualities of life we tend to forget when we are all well but realizes only when in the throes of death. Every day is a precious gift. If we look deeper, no matter what our problems may be, there is always something valuable to learn, to do, to say and to be.
He spoke of the brick walls equating it with those "that separates us from the people who don't really want to achieve their dreams." I have a dream and I won't let it go for if I do, then I lose that too and that is good as death itself. This is the inspiration I got from this lecture. Never giving up is a vital lesson to learn when it comes to achieving dreams and goals.
I was touched by the way he looks at life, living and loving. I was touched by his sense of humor, sharing his passion for life while there is life. He tells us to find the best in everybody even when it means having to look really hard, to work hard without complaining, to apologize when you make mistakes and to be grateful for every day and every moment.
I often find inspiration in the words and deeds of others and often times I share what I have learned with my friends and family. This is one such time.
Life is all we have.
I share with you all this inspiring video clip.
